SSX Almost Definitely Getting Live Multiplayer Soon

Electronic Arts’ newest entry in the hit snowboarding franchise SSX, aptly titled SSX, will almost definitely be receiving head-to-head live multiplayer support via an update soon. If the blatantly obvious tweets, screenshots, and video uploaded by the company are any indication, we can nearly confirm it as fact at this point.

If you take a glance at the brief video above, you’ll notice that the game states that the race will commence once all players have readied up, indicating that live players are, in fact, required. If you’ve played SSX, then you’re aware that the only form of multiplayer that exists (currently) within the game is based on racing each other’s ghost times, not racing simultaneously.

The lack of any true multiplayer (as was nearly conventional for the series) was a negative point for many fans of the franchise. Indeed, once (or if) EA does intend to add multiplayer post-launch, will it be enough to make those previously hesitant go for a purchase?

But more importantly, will this update be cost-free? If they do decide to charge a fee for the update, you can almost definitely bet on seeing a divide in the community – those who are willing to purchase multiplayer, and those who aren’t.

That said, the update could be entirely free – which I think I speak for everyone when I say it’s definitely, definitely welcome.

I don’t think it will have a fee if you already have the online pass.
