Today, Activision sent out a press release that offered up details of their upcoming DLC drops for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Among the information provided, they’ve confirmed that the maps leaked earlier this week—Gulch, Parish, and Boardwalk—will, in fact, be a part of Collection #4, “Final Assault,” set to be released on September 6. Final Assault will also include two other maps: Offshore and Decommission, which take place on an oceanic oilrig and “rotting ocean liners,” respectively. Cool!

But there was plenty of other information revealed in the press release. Content Collection #3, “Chaos Pack,” is dropping next week on August 9, and includes four new Special Ops Missions: Vertigo, Arctic Recon, Light’Em Up, and Special Delivery. Additionally, there will be three new Face Off Maps: Vortex, U-Turn, and Intersection.

Now, if you’re a Modern Warfare Premium Elite member , you probably already have access to some of this content. For the rest of you, Xbox users will get the content at the above-noted dates, each retailing for 1200 MS points ($14.99). PS3 and PC gamers get all that goodness “shortly thereafter.”

Call of Duty DLC generally persistently is developed/released until the next game comes out. It’s pretty much a fact that we’ll have new maps and missions until November, when Black Ops 2 comes out, and then from there we’ll have content until November 2013, when the next Call of Duty comes out, etc etc

It’s a good model, though. If you’re a fan of Modern Warfare and not Black Ops you’ll have a lot to keep you playing until the next Infinity Ward installment. Same with the Treyarch installments. If you don’t want to commit to buying another Call of Duty game every year, you can just stay with one every two years and rely on the DLC to keep it fresh.
