Video game publisher Take-Two announced recently during its first quarter conference call that Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 is performing well in regards to retail pre-orders.

“Consumer anticipation is phenomenal,” said Karl Slatoff, chief operating officer of Take-Two about the sequel to Gearbox’s 2009 hit.

“Pre-orders are currently the third highest of any title in Take-Two’s history, behind only Grand Theft Auto 4 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.”

By the way, Grand Theft Auto 4 generated an incredible $500 million in its first sales week, and sold well over 6 million copies total, with 3.6 million of those going on launch day. Jinkees, jinkees indeed.

Borderlands sold just over 6 million units in its lifetime and survey says Borderlands 2 will likely perform as well in its first week of sales. It should, because it’s shaping up to be one sweet-looking game.

    I’m sure the Steam/Amazon discounted pre-order from last week helped bump that number up. Sure all that fancy shit with the special editions are nice, but to get $6 off on a pre-order these days is a bargin!

    I miss the ~$10 off pre-orders that Amazon used to offer. ;_;
