Final Fantasy III Coming to OUYA

Those who donated their hard-earned income to backing the OUYA Kickstarter project have yet another reason to justify their investment: Final Fantasy III will officially be coming to the OUYA console next year in beautiful high-definition.

Now that the Android-based OUYA has the software backing of a large publisher like Square Enix to its name, the road is beginning to open for the console. Combine that with its recent partnership with OnLive and Robert Bowling’s studio Robotoki, and the OUYA may start to be taken more seriously by the publishing industry as the months leading up to its launch march ever so diligently forward.

But seriously, can I get a vote going for Chocobo Racing to be ported to OUYA as well? Anyone?

I seriously don’t understand this thing. It’s basically an oversized cellphone in terms of performance, yet people are deluding themselves into believing that games like Skyrim and Battlefield are going to be released for it. I can’t wait for all the schadenfreude when people realize that they’ve been scammed and all they have is ports of 15 year old games, ports of mobile games, and onlive functionality that already exists on almost every platform known to man.

Err, the only scam here would be if it never gets made.

Even if it turns into nothing more than a way to revive 15 year-old console games, I’m certainly okay with that. Especially considering it costs less than A QUARTER of what the PS3 and Xbox 360 were priced at launch, there is nothing wrong with the functionality presented. Even that special game system by OnLive is $99.

Mind you, being an open platform means games will likely have mod support (whether officially supported or fanhacks) which is something I doubt will ever exist on mainstream consoles. Plus indie devs won’t have to deal with bullshit fees and certification systems (c/o Sony and Microsoft) to get their games released.

But I do find it funny how some people basically expect a PC from it. Just goes to show how technologically redundant the concept of a ‘gaming console’ is in the first place. The only reason mainstream consoles are successful in the first place is due to brand loyalty and exclusivity deals.

    Oops, talk about redundancy. z_z

I still see no reason for me to get this. If I wanted to play on an oversized emulator, I would just download the hundreds of them on the internet and play ROMs on my computer. Sure it’s nice for indie developers but let’s face it, this thing will come and be forgotten very quickly, like many other overhyped pieces of technology
