Japan Investigating Reports of Burning Vitas
A post on Andriasang from last night says that, according to the Daily Yomiuri newspaper, an agency within the Japanese government is investigating reports of PlayStation Vita systems that have burnt up somehow (the details of the “burning” aren’t offered). The incidents have occurred during charging, and so far there have been 31 reports of such cases, with 23 in Japan, and eight in North America, the UK, and Australia.
The post also says that Sony is aware of the problem, and that they are denying a system malfunction or defect, and won’t be issuing a recall. To hear Sony tell it, the problem is that there are “liquids or other objects inserted in the connection” between the system and the power supply, and that anyone whose systems have burnt connections will have to pay for repairs out of their own pocket.
YIKES.
Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported thus far.
