More PS3 Super-Slim Details Floating Around

ps3 console rumors

A post on VG247 says that the new, “super-slim” version of the PlayStation 3 console isn’t going to be officially announced at the upcoming gamescom conference on August 14. However, the post claims that a reveal-announcement had been planned, but that there are too many units of the current console in stock. As such, it seems as though Sony would rather try and sell more units before making an announcement about the new SKU.

In addition, the 16gb version of the console is said to have a Flash memory hard drive, and could retail for as low as £99, or roughly $150. To make matters more confusing, though, the post notes that the official word is that there are “no plans for a £99 PS3.” Of course, that’s likely to be the official line considering the thing hasn’t been announced yet.

So, to answer your question, I don’t know.

Does anyone think this could be about possible plannings of a PS4 and not PS3?

Sony is making a mistake here. No one is going to buy the current PS3, because they are all waiting for the PS3 slim. In that case, Sony should release the PS3 slim and then price drop the current PS3 to about half to 2/3rds its current cost.
