Could Borderlands 2 See Release On The Wii U?

Gearbox likes the Wii U, a lot — and with the Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines declared as the best looking among all platforms, it’s hard to argue that Gearbox doesn’t have faith in the system’s capabilities. That said, Gearbox’s other big game set to release this year, Borderlands 2, could also see a Wii U release.

“We really like the Wii U, I think it’s a really cool platform…So we’re really excited to bring Aliens: Colonial Marines to it. And we’re going to do a wait and see approach, our publisher 2K is going to see whether they’re going to go with that,” said Gearbox co-founder Brian Martel in an interview with Dealspwn.

“…But if Borderlands 2 was on the Wii U, the thing I would be most excited about is inventory management: it would be amazing on that, it would just be fantastic. And I think the artwork would look really good, with the way they can deal with the resolutions and textures, I think it’s a really good console.”

Given Nintendo’s greater focus on third-party support this time around with the Wii U, it might be a smart move on Gearbox’s part to eventually prep a Wii U edition. Then again, it could also face-plant right alongside the system.

Only time (and sales numbers) will tell.
