As of this week, Nintendo has enticed just over 5 million suckers people into purchasing their latest gaming handheld, the Nintendo 3DS.

In terms of first party software,The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D has gone on to sell well over 1 million units, setting it in 3rd place, just below Mario Kart 7 (1.75 million units sold) and Super Mario 3D Land (2.1 million units sold).

With over 5 million 3DS units now sold in the United States alone, Nintendo is queuing up more equally promising first party games for their glasses-free 3D system. With titles like New Super Mario Bros. 2 launching in August, and Luigi’s Mansion and the new Paper Mario dropping around the holidays, Nintendo hopes that bringing more “proven franchises” to the table will comfort people that their money has not been spent in waste.

Congratulations to Nintendo for solidifying their position in the mobile market once more, they’re certain familiar with it, given their history. Let’s just hope, for their sake though, that the Wii U saturates the market at a much higher pace.
