Today, a snippet from the most recent issue of Game Informer is making its way around the internet, namely a portion of an interview with EA Labels president Frank Gibeau. Gibeau explains that Electronic Arts actually would have wanted to take on publishing duties for a sequel to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning:

“I think it’s unfortunate how everything worked out [for 38 Studios]…At the end of the day we saw a lot of creativity and vision in the team that Curt [Schilling] put together. We thought the game was terrific. It reviewed well.

We built a good business there and hope there’s a sequel to it someday. Wed’ love to be a partner for that.”

By now the story of 38 Studios’ collapse is pretty well known—but one of the details from the company’s implosion was the fact that, reportedly, EA had already passed on publishing the in-development sequel. The fact that EA wouldn’t partner with 38 Studios and Big Huge Games on the title was one of the contributing factors to the company’s downfall—at least that’s what it seemed like to me.

Very curious, indeed…
