God of War Movie Gets New Screenwriters

It’s been a big week for video game movies. Monday brought us news of the Assassin’s Creed movie’s casting, while yesterday we found out that Deus Ex’s film rights were grabbed by CBS Films. A post on the Hollywood Reporter late yesterday revealed that the screenwriting duo of Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan have been hired to rewrite the script to the movie adaptation of God of War.

You might remember them from such films as Saw 4, 5, 6, Saw 3D, Piranha 3DD, and my favorite title of anything ever, Feast II: Sloppy Seconds. So, you know, legends of movie-making quality.

Okay, yes, I’m being pretty snarky and disingenuous. The fact of the matter is these guys are Hollywood screenwriters who must get work because their writing makes studios money and gets people going. Whether or not they’re the right fit for a God of War adaptation is another question entirely. Frankly, I think Zack Snyder would do a pretty kick-ass job, considering he basically already made a God of War movie that was called 300.

But, whatever. Video game movies. They are what they are. We’ll all see them. Why not?
