Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut Available Today

me3 extended cut slider

The other day, a commenter called me a “troll baiting fucktard,” since I was a little sarcastic regarding the uproar over the ending of Mass Effect 3 earlier this year. I may be a troll-baiter, and I may be a fucktard, but I’m certainly not…wait…wasn’t there another thing?

Anyway, I’m posting this here because I think it’d be interesting to hear what you have to say about the free Extended Cut DLC that BioWare and EA released today. As of this writing, it should be out for Xbox 360 users, and later on today for PlayStation 3 and PC gamers.

Does the DLC make you feel better about the game? Does it answer the questions you might’ve still had? Does it better reflect your choices from the game?

Or is it too little, too late? Is it just adding insult to injury? Is it other clichés that mean “bad”?

Let us know what you think in the comments below. I am LEGITIMATELY CURIOUS as to how you feel.

Ready…set…GO!

1.6gb download fml. It’s downloaded but erm, I just have to complete the game to get it..

Going for the “PERFECT”, Insanity, Paragon route saving as many people as possible. Effing Kelly Chambers getting shot last play through..But yeah, shall edit this post later =)

Just played it, some things still didn’t make sense, but at least there’s a reasons for anything that happens to the characters. But at least most of it weren’t disappointing to me.

It’s already too late. I respect how they ended ME3. It was the lazy man’s ending and we’ve all had those days where we just don’t feel like making the ending to that blockbuster video game we’re working on good. I am downloading it now AS WE SPEAK (well type really, and its only me) so like CocoBumfluff I will update with my actually thoughts on this DLC that’s really just for the whiners. ARTISTIC LICENCE FTW!

I’m really curious to hear how people react… I sold my copy of ME3 in puerile anger so I can’t check out the new ending myself.

its great man, i cried a bit. they did the extra scenes in a great way, but the destroy ending ends in a cliffhanger so mabey post ending DLC for that ending

I don’t have the ability to play (view?) the extended cut, having disposed of ME3 some time ago. Youtube, here I come!

Really disappointed that the indoctrination theory wasn’t mentioned. I know some thought it was picking at straws but the 2 documentaries based on it really had me convinced. I guess it still could count woth the rejection ending… Anyway overall the endings are improved, just not the ending I waned to be honest.

  7. Posted by lukebishop98 on 26 June 12 at 10:55am

the ending to mass effect I have not reached yet as I am stuck on a loop of playing minecraft TO FUCKING MUCH but what everyone is saying I think they only made this to satisfy the thirst of the people who thought it was a bad ending so it’s obviously going be a pile of fuck sticks either way and having to complete the game to play it just makes it even worse : /

  8. Posted by adam on 26 June 12 at 11:27am

it was better, but still not what i was hopping for. im still disapointed that they havent proved or disproved if sheperd survived the red ending.

  9. Posted by Gavin on 26 June 12 at 12:27pm

Amazing. Only word for it. I’ve now seen all 4 endings and loved all of them. My personal ending was the synthesis one, I made that choice originally. I feel that’s the nicest one. Everyone survives and I loved how they shown you the moment a human and a husk realise they understand each other. Was pretty emotional. The part where your LI (Liara) was putting your name plaque on the wall was brilliant. I was in tears! Very glad they added the dialogue wheel during the child/AI section. Answered alot of a questions I had. Bioware did good as far as I’m concerned.

  10. Posted by smr on 26 June 12 at 2:49pm

So basically this extended DLC amounts to having a QQ moment where they list all the members you got carelessly killed throughout the game. A wall of names; THE EPITOME OF PLAYER CHOICE!

This ‘refusal’ ending is the only bearable one for me, because it actually makes sense, heh.

  11. Posted by Mike on 26 June 12 at 3:23pm

    AAAAANNNNNNNGGGGGRRRRRYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

No actually I really liked it. As in I am feeling very happy and satisfied right now. I was thinking to myself: “this is exactly what I wanted to see the first time.” The refusal ending was badass and an excellent addition. The added dialogue explaining everything actually answered all my questions. Finally, the destruction ending is really the best possible ending. Who’s to say the cycle is inevitable and all that jazz. Just blow the damn Reapers up and we’ll make our own fate yadda yadda…

So yeah, I’ll keep giving Bioware money now. Now excuse me while I go replay Mass Effect 3

  12. Posted by Miek on 26 June 12 at 3:34pm

It’s odd how in the light of this, people seem to have forgotten why people were angry about the endings in the first place. 3 choices, all choices not mattering, the deus ex machina… Honestly I thought it was meh, definately an improvement, but it’s not hard to improve from shit.

  13. Posted by Eleglas on 26 June 12 at 3:42pm

After seeing all the endings (via Youtube), I must admit they are much better than they were (though that isn’t saying much). Obviously they should have been like this from the start.

Personally, I still like the Indoctrination theory better, in a perfect world it would have been part of the game. But because it is not, these improved endings suffice.

That doesn’t change the fact that in the future, whenever anyone mentions Mass Effect to me, I will still remember it for the crappy endings, and middlefinger EA gave to everyone with it.

    • Posted by Eleglas on 26 June 12 at 3:45pm

Oh I forgot to mention this:

No longer will I buy a Bioware game that interests me just for the interest I have. I did it with KOTOR, ME and TOR. Now I’ll be looking at reviews before I make my decision, something I don’t tend to do, but Bioware has shaken my faith in them, and I doubt it will recover.

  14. Posted by Jaydee on 26 June 12 at 3:50pm

i wished they had made an ending were we made tali’s house :(

  15. Posted by Ring on 26 June 12 at 3:55pm

Watched the endings. It’s clear to me that EA has dug it’s claws firmly into Bioware. The ‘closure’ did nothing but add more cg scenes that are color coded. Granted, at least Shephard doesn’t follow the Starchild like a blind fool, the fact that the game still boils down to A, B and C, with very little (if any) variation based on earlier choices is depressing.

And the extra closure was just mimicing Deus Ex 1. I guess it fits, being how big of a Deus Ex Machina the ending had.

  16. Posted by Indoctrinated Shepard on 26 June 12 at 3:59pm

Name says it all, he is still indoctrinated. It’s so clear when you hear harbingers voice from the child. And there is still the fact that there is dead bodies depicturing ashley and kaiden in the citadel. I hope they give as another game with shepard ;)

  17. Posted by silentwaldo on 26 June 12 at 4:19pm

Damn it, stop them spoilers you crazy kids, yer ruining them surprise happiness/anger/theraphy sessions for others.

  18. Posted by Ificationer on 26 June 12 at 4:28pm

the new endings are pretty good…BUT THEY STILL HAVE PLOT HOLES!

  19. Posted by Tristan on 26 June 12 at 5:16pm

I liked it a lot actually. I feel all the endings provided closure.

  20. Posted by tehKillaChris on 26 June 12 at 5:46pm

I like many really liked the indoctrination theory, but what we is what we get. These weren’t much different, but they explained a bit, I still like the destroy ending because like Star Wars “You were the chosen one, you were meant to destroy them, not join them!”, the rejection one I would have probably liked if it were a thing if you had high enough EMS you could defeat the reapers. Speaking of the rejection one how come the Catalyst’s voice suddenly becomes Harbinger? Isn’t that something to spark that indoctrination theory every went on about again?

  21. Posted by Eric on 26 June 12 at 5:51pm

When i tried to download it i pressed the middle button(xbox) and when i checked downloads a second later it wasnt there so i played it but no diff ending

  22. Posted by Eric on 26 June 12 at 5:53pm

I wish it included the indoctrination theory cause that was min blowing but im ok with this one but it doesnt make me feel like i finished the game

  23. Posted by soulprovider on 26 June 12 at 6:56pm

its sad because it really looks like bioware is going towards the political ending, you know that one where freedom is squashed, because the one where we choose to be free is the one where we lose and are put in our place. Control still bothers me on a level, screams that if you follow blindly you’ll be protected and saved, Synthesis still reminds me of nazi’s and hitlers political agenda, and destroy seems to be the better option but they don’t explain the differention between AI and synthetics so your still committing genocide. Not to mention that bioware cleared up some of the legitimate questions and made it like garrus and joker would abandon shepard, not to mention my favorite thing they changed the explosion so it didn’t destroy the relays. Lets not forget that some how galactic society continues on. But its still a deus ex ending and a bad one at that.

  24. Posted by AFLoneWolf on 26 June 12 at 6:57pm

Played through all versions of the ending on both paragon MShep and Renegade FemShep. The dues ex machina (nothing to do with the game) still sticks out like a sore thumb. But that’s to be expected of an ending where right up the last minute the characters still didn’t know what their massive device was supposed to do.

I guess what I was looking for was an answer to my (and the fans’ collective) “What the F###?!” We got it. You can ask the StarChild a little more about why there are three options. Like what they’re supposed to do, how they’re supposed to work, and what will happen next.

After you made your choice you get a voice over narration about what happens to the rest of the galaxy with snapshot vignettes featuring the survivors (which is what I REALLY wanted in the first place).

All changed take place after the charge into the teleportation beam up to the citadel over London. So save just before the final mission the earth because you wont get another chance

I dunno, don care. I could download the free dlc, but I’d have to open Origin. My interest levels are so low, I can’t bring myself to deal with EA’s shitty game manager/store/crappy-version of steam. I was disappointed in the original ending, now I just imagine how it should have ended. That’s good enough for me.

    • Posted by smr on 26 June 12 at 9:05pm

      This.
At least when it was vague, we could fill in the holes ourselves to make sense of it, but now it just emphasizes how poorly the ending was planned from the start.

  26. Posted by Trollolololololol on 26 June 12 at 10:35pm

Damn near everyone complained that Shepared submitted to the Reapers and that there was no refusal ending.

    Well, guess what?!

You can refuse now, which results in a Game Over…… Just wow. BioWare’s little troll is going to cost them, I’m betting.

  27. Posted by Pottsy on 27 June 12 at 12:50am

Having seen the extended endings, I can say that Bioware, while they were pretty cliche, tried to fix things with this extended cut, but in the end you can’t fix the ending without fundamentally changing it (for starters, get rid of that little glowing s**t that thinks it’s an advanced AI when its logic has so many holes you could fly Harbinger through them – that thing is literally the source of the majority of the ending’s problems). Probably the best thing about this is you can refuse Hologram Kid’s options and have an ending where you conceivably lose. But in the end they just threw some relatively average writing after some terrible writing and we still have the same major problems (I was still pointing out flaws in Hologram Kid’s argument as it was saying it on my TV). So in the end, you tried Bioware but you were kidding yourselves if you thought this would fix tthings.

  28. Posted by Scorch1138 on 27 June 12 at 6:32am

NOTHING CHANGED EVERYTHING IS STILL THE SAME BUT THE NEW REFUSE ENDING WHICH EVERYONE DIED AND THE EXTENDED CUT DIDN’T EXPLAIN ANYTHING FOR SHIT .

SO DON’T BOTHER DOWNLOADING THIS SHIT DLC CAUSE THE ONLY THING NEW IS A SHITTIER ENDING!!!!!!!!

SO YOU ARE JUST BETTER OF SELLING THIS PIECE OF SHIT GAME TO SOME OTHER SAD SAP!!!!!

  29. Posted by Y2M on 27 June 12 at 7:31am

Wow…after reading the comments…most gamers are a bunch of whiny fucktards. Seriously, the Mass Effect series has been nothing but stellar. Did Bioware drop the ball with the original endings for Mass Effect 3? Yes. Should the extended endings have been the ones we should have seen? Yep. Does Bioware deserve this continued outrage? Fuck no. The fact that they took additonal time and resources, AND wrangled up some of the voice actors to provide additional lines to appease the babbies shows that Bioware cares. They didnt have to do all of that, they could have just told us to fuck off, yet here we are…and it’s still not enough for these ingrates. Ever think that maybe this was more about the journey than the destination? I, for one, still stand with Bioware. I haven’t played a game of thiers I didnt like yet. Gotta love the “refuse” ending, felt like a giant middle finger to those whiners who are still complaining. You pretty much deserve it. Ingrates.

      Fucktards for all!

  30. Posted by David on 27 June 12 at 8:20am

I thought the new ending was really good and I’ll admit, I got a little emotional. It made me happy that I kept my copy of the game instead of rage selling it. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Mass Effect!

  31. Posted by kevin on 27 June 12 at 2:27pm

i felt the same with the control and sythesyse endings but i was kinda pissed with the destroy as it didnt make sense *SPOILER*at the end it shows your team realising they could save you still if they go back to earth(which was awsome)but then its over.although this was better it made no sense. if the famous indocronation theory was true then sheperd must have slept through the rest of the battle, eventually being found by your team after the battle was won.but the only way the battle was won was by destroying the reapers, this could only happen if you destroyed the catalyst and the reapers, but if you really werent dreaming then you wouldnt have survived the fall back to earth,it could be possible the whole ending was the dream too but then that leads you right back at the start where you wake up and the game doesnt let you defeat harbringer

  32. Posted by Sumair on 27 June 12 at 5:25pm

Always wanted to try mass effect out but not sure because so many people are hating on the ending is it still worth to buy?

    • Posted by Eleglas on 01 July 12 at 5:16am

The series as a whole is amazing, you’ve never played a series with such a good story-to-gameplay rating. Usually it’s one or the other for games, but not in Mass Effect.

Start with Mass Effect 1 or you’ll get confused by somethings.

It’s really worth your time, trust me.
