Gaikai Rumored to be Seeking Half-Billion Dollar Buyout

A report on Fortune claims that cloud-gaming company Gaikai is looking for someone to buy them—for $500 million. That’s half a billion. With a B.

The report cites sources that claim Gaikai has hired bankers to help handle the potential sale. So far, the company has remained tight-lipped about the rumor, but it should be noted that only a few weeks ago there were rumors that Sony and Gaikai had entered into a partnership to stream PS1 games to PS3 consoles—a rumor that turned out to be total bunk.

So what’s going on with Gaikai? Is all of this just smoke and mirrors designed to drum up interest? Or is there something else going on, which is being filtered through the grapevine into these rumors? Strange days, indeed…
