eSports Report for June 11, 2012

COOL STUFF THAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK:

Quantic SaSe Nabs 4th at MLG Anaheim

AvDf4xRCEAANEc-
This is one of the coolest stories and most incredible runs we’ve seen out of any StarCraft event. Quantic SaSe fought his way through the open pools and the loser’s bracket to finish fourth overall, taking home $5,500 for a crazy gauntlet of matches. Not only did he play some 20 best-of-three matches, but he knocked down players like Leenock, Stephano, viOLet, Rain, and Grubby.

Also you might notice a certain logo on the man’s shirt. That’s right – Machinima VS is now a sponsor of Quantic Gaming! If you didn’t have a team to cheer for before, you damn well do now.

That leads me to the next topic…

Machinima VS Launches This Friday

Our coverage of competitive eSports will no longer be a once-a-week awkward post on an Internet blog! Starting this Friday, June 15, we’re launching a channel dedicated to competitive gaming from RTS to shooters to fighting games. We’ll have interviews and coverage from MLG Anaheim up, as well as a weekly recap show. It’ll be badass, so look forward to it.

COMING UP THIS WEEK:

CEO 2012 Fighting Game Championships [June 15 - 17]

Yet another Road to EVO tournament, featuring every major fighter plus the scrappy new Skullgirls. You can catch the stream over on CEO’s Twitch channel.

DreamHack 2012 Summer Open [June 16 - 19]

The world’s largest LAN party is back for more dudes-cramming-their-computers-in-a-huge-silo action. This accompanies tournaments from StarCraft II, Heroes of Newerth, League of Legends, Counter-Strike, Quake Live, Battlefield 3, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Street Fighter X Tekken, and DOTA 2. DreamHack sets up a whole slew of Twitch accounts to watch all the action, so tune in and pick your poison.

The GESL (Gigabyte eSports LAN) [June 15 - 17]

Yet another awesome eSports event for all the lucky ducks in SoCal, the GESL will take place at California State Polytechnic University of Pomona. They’re hosting a League of Legends and StarCraft II tournament, so between this and DreamHack there will be more mouse-clickin than you can really watch. You can catch stream info over on the TeamLiquid post.

Nissan GT Academy 2012

main
This is a pretty sweet event that finally throws a little love to all the racing fans out there. The Nissan GT Academy gives players the chance to qualify to race a real car around a real track. Just download the free demo through the PlayStation Store (it’s called “GT Academy 2012″) and rank high enough to make it through the rounds of competition. They’re near the end of open competition now, so make sure to head to the competition’s Facebook page to get in the running if you fancy yourself the next Stig.

I would like to point out that I was the one who pointed out to Lawrence on twitter that SaSe had a Machinima logo on ^-^

Also, I’m so so happy that Machinima is pushing more eSports coverage. Seeing eSports advance so quickly is really a dream come true, especially with rumors that MLG will be on CBS this fall. Thanks so much Machinima!
