Machinima Announces Best of E3 Nominations

By Rob Smith | 08 June 2012 | 29 Comments

Three days (or four or five however you want to count it) of the best in video gaming have boiled down to this. The esteemed editorial warriors at Inside Gaming discussed, debated, argued, and in a couple of places were just plain overruled. Here are our nominees for the Best of E3 2012 awards.

The lack of Tomb Raider in this list bugs me.

    • Posted by Lawrence Sonntag on 08 June 12 at 9:30pm

That was brought up in award deliberation… you’ll also notice the lack of Dead Space 3. Unfortunately in all the categories, both games were JUST edged out by other nominees.

      • Posted by Michael on 09 June 12 at 9:04am

That’s strange as Tomb Raiders been winning lots of awards this year. IGN even gave it Best of E3. Shame it just missed out.

IGN gives their biggest award to the people with the biggest wallets.

          • Posted by Landon Robinson on 09 June 12 at 6:14pm

Lawrence is 100% spot on, just because something wasn’t officially nominated doesn’t mean it wasn’t debated.

I, for one, LOVED what we saw of Tomb Raider. See? It’s not like we didn’t like it.

its very obuis that my garmer sucks and that Activision haves the bigest pokets

whyat the fuck, wheres watch dogs it should have been nominated in almost every category!!!???

    • Posted by Sairagna on 08 June 12 at 8:25pm

while i agree with you i think it isn’t on the list because it has no platform announcement yet and with so little information it is difficult to categorize it. i still think it deserves best in show though.

    • Posted by Lawrence Sonntag on 08 June 12 at 9:29pm

One of our requirements for nomination is that the game be playable at E3. Watch Dogs was not, thus no nomination.

      • Posted by Maximk on 09 June 12 at 3:28am

So next year is watchdog’s year.

      • Posted by gwhizzl on 09 June 12 at 6:02pm

So even though the category could be “Best Trailer” it has to be playable? The trailer was incredible!

  3. Posted by Hugh Jazz on 08 June 12 at 7:21pm

    where is dust 514?

  4. Posted by Ben on 08 June 12 at 8:14pm

Where the hell is Watch Dogs????

    • Posted by jaaaackbrown on 08 June 12 at 11:09pm

I love how someone RIGHT ABOVE YOU just asked the SAME QUESTION, and Lawrence answered it, yet you didn’t bother reading it. I swear, is there ever going to be a videogame awards article where someone doesn’t post stupid nonsense?

  5. Posted by DarthSIlon on 08 June 12 at 9:12pm

What about Spec Ops: The Line?
Put that in instead of Black Ops 2.

  6. Posted by Kyraneth on 08 June 12 at 10:43pm

How in the giant merlin balls did the ACIII trailer not earn a spot in the best trailer category

  7. Posted by Chunky_2336 on 08 June 12 at 11:00pm

No MoH at all? after reading Lawrence’s comment of “One of our requirements for nomination is that the game be playable at E3. Watch Dogs was not, thus no nomination.” i guess they did not get to play it. Or it was just not in the league of the nominations :(

    • Posted by Maximk on 09 June 12 at 3:29am

      that makes me sad.

MoH was playable, and looked absolutely incredible. It should have definately been on the list for best multiplayer shooter. Seeing as there was no Black ops 2 multiplayer footage or any sort of multiplayer demo, I think MoH with their multiplayer demo should have replaced BO2.

      Any thoughts?

      • Posted by Lawrence Sonntag on 11 June 12 at 5:10pm

Nothing about Medal of Honor made it stand out at all. It’s an online multiplayer shooter, sure, but what qualities made it worthy of nomination? The other games we nominated are doing something new and exciting with multiplayer.

And before that sets off a shitstorm, yes Black Ops II is on there, but we actually saw some really cool new ideas from the multiplayer in that game. Check out our stage demo of the multiplayer if you disagree.

Where’s Agni’s Philosophy from Square Enix?! Or Elemental from Epic?! Those games were the best at the show! Shame on you, Machinima… I really can’t trust your judging opinions anymore…

Also, FYI, Half Life Episode 3 was announced via Morse Code during the MS conference… The tapping of the speakers shoes? I guess you people won’t be nominating that either, huh? Tss… Excuse me. I need to go wash all this ignorance off.

    • Posted by Landon Robinson on 09 June 12 at 6:12pm

I hope it came across in the first paragraph of this post that these choices were not all unanimous.

Just because a title wasn’t a final nomination doesn’t imply that it wasn’t a consideration…or even fought for.

      • Posted by Mugenite on 09 June 12 at 9:23pm

Exactly. Everyone keeps posting about games not listed as if their kids didn’t make the football team or something. This isn’t the end of the world… :/

        • Posted by Lawrence Sonntag on 11 June 12 at 5:08pm

Also neither of those were actual games, much less playable. Our rule is that if a game is not playable, or if we can’t actually use hardware, we won’t nominate it.

          • Posted by Mugenite on 12 June 12 at 4:15pm

Lol, I know they were just demos of their engines. But the whole HLE3 thing is true. I’m being seriously.

  9. Posted by LimeDude on 09 June 12 at 3:56am

Where is Crysis 3 the game should have made it to the nomination for zhe best shooter.

  10. Posted by bearnaked on 09 June 12 at 7:20pm

I completely agree with this list… *everyone’s brains explode*

    • Posted by Mugenite on 09 June 12 at 9:27pm

Halo 4 should win everything it was nominated for.
