E3 2012: Rumored Partnership between Sony and Gaikai Debunked
Whoops. Last week, we reported that Sony and Gaikai would make a big announcement about a partnership at E3 this week—namely, that Gaikai would be providing PS1 and PS2 streaming to the PlayStation 3.
Well, Sony’s press conference has come and gone, with nary an announcement. Turns out the whole thing was bunk. How do we know? David Perry, Gaikai co-founder, has said as much.
A post on Eurogamer reveals that Perry wasn’t even at the conference at the time of Sony’s press conference:
“I was sitting in my hotel room, and I know everyone was like, ‘Oh my god, are they going to announce cloud gaming?’ And I was like, ‘No, they’re not going to announce cloud gaming.’ I wasn’t even there!”
Apparently Gaikai does have a deal to integrate its game streaming services into Samsung TVs…but nothing’s going on with Sony as of now.
Sorry folks. DANG IT.
