Nintendo’s Wii U Pre-E3 Stream Was Pretty Cool

That wraps up this stream though. I’ll try to get the VOD up on this page as soon as I can find it…

15.33 -

Asynchronous multiplayer games are all the rage on mobile devices right now – those sorts of games could do really, really well on the Wii U (imagining downloadable type games through the eShop).

15.32 -

And that’s it! Lots of cool ideas. I can see people that aren’t technologically savvy really getting in to the social interaction of the device. Tons of potential for sharing user-generated content too.

15.30 -

I hope that this presentation isn’t a bunch of pretty promises hiding a disappointing reality like the Wii… if it actually works like they show, it could be a real evolution in social interaction on a console.

15.26 -

The Miiverse will be accessible from any phone, PC, and 3DS. All for free. That’s a big deal, provided it actually works…

15.24 -

The idea of leaving player-created content in other people’s games reminds me a lot of Demon’s / Dark Souls. It’s a fantastic and unobtrusive way to implement social functionality.

15.22 -

I can see the Mii Universe creating social pressure to buy a Wii U. Owners will try and convince their friends to get one to share doodles and messages through the system. I already know of some friends that are good at drawing that I want to get this.

15.20 -

The Wii U interface will have tiles to represent games and applications, with Miis that gather under them to represent those playing. I saw some doodles and such pop up too, guessing you can make those with the touchscreen.

15.17 -

Awesome vision of Internet-based gaming community, but the lynchpin will be how you add and manage your friends.

That’s code for — please god do something more friendly than friend codes.

15.16 -

WHAT. Wii U will support voice/video chat via the controller’s camera.

15.14 -

Looks like every game will have a message board of sorts that you can also see from your mobile phone. Reminds me of Microsoft’s vision of beacons but… way cooler.

15.13 -

Is it vitality sensor time? Or are we seeing Nintendo’s bold vision of text messaging.

15.13 -

I am very concerned about this segment. Very concerned.

15.12 -

DAMN DID YOU HEAR THAT WORD PLAY. “Wii U does what we did.”

Nintendo does what Nintendidn’t. Wait, what

15.11 -

Wii U pro controller = 360 controller. Boners.

15.10 -

I wonder if supporting Wii controls also means 100% backwards compatibility.

15.10 -

Specifically confirming that you can keep playing a Wii U game from the tablet while the TV is taken. As one with a girlfriend that has started watching lots of Gossip Girl, that’s fucking AWESOME.

15.09 -

Lots of concept footage we’ve already seen so far… I’m getting the vibe this is going to be a very “philosophical” talk.

15.08 -

So far – clickable thumbsticks whooooa Wii U blowing your mind!

15.07 -

Iwata is so cute I can’t even handle it.

I love the look of both the new controllers. I like how the 3ds has a one time friend code system but would prefer the WiiU not have friend codes at all.

Looks like a combination of playing games while holding the equivslent of a arcade pad as a controller and chat roulette
