Just as we were getting settled on the idea of only having one Ratchet and Clank this year (via the Ratchet & Clank HD Collection), Sony has gone ahead and blown our minds by announcing the next game in the franchise, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault.

Set to release later this year on the PlayStation Network exclusively, this downloadable only title from Insomniac comes packed with a “fun-sized Ratchet adventure” and “brand new online features.”

“We’ve returned to the series’ classic feel, camera, controls and weapons, while innovating and giving you a whole new way to play. Even better, the addition of online features means you can experience Full Frontal Assault with your friends,” said Ted Price, CEO of developer Insomniac Games.

No specific details regarding price or release date were given.

Not counting the HD Collection, this is the fifth Ratchet & Clank title to hit the PlayStation 3 and the 11th in the franchise as a whole – pushing it farther up the list of successful long running franchises. Good luck beating Final Fantasy.

Now, we simply wait for confirmation of the inclusion of Captain Qwark in the game.

However, I am happy to see a proper Ratchet & Clank game being released again.
