injustice announcment

This morning, Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment has announced the planned 2013 releaese of Injustice: Gods Among Us, a new fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios. NetherRealm is made up of the folks who were once and are currently behind the Mortal Kombat franchise, and likely has people on staff who worked on Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe from a few years ago. Sigh.

The new game is “set in a world where the lines between good and evil are blurred,” offering characters including Batman, Superman, the Flash, Wonder Woman, Solomon Grundy, and Harley Quinn, with more to be announced, I’m sure. In addition, these are the “New 52” versions of the characters, which debuted when DC rebooted their universe (again) late last year. So, as far as I know, no crossover with Rocksteady’s Arkham game universe.

For now, the trailer can be seen right here, and while it certainly looks as though it’ll be fun, I kind of would prefer some action adventure games starring these characters. But, you know, good ones. I still wish we could get some really games with the Flash or Superman…for now, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes will have to do.

I’m of the opinion that the best fighting games starring comic book characters have come exclusively from Capcom, starring icons from the Marvel Universe. I’ll definitely give this game a spin when it’s released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U sometime next year, but you can officially color me skeptical.

Don’t take me wrong here, this game looks nice, and it will probably be fun, but it wont be a game for the masses like Marvel VS series, it’s hard being a DC fan, the games are meh, the movies are meh, the cartoons are meh, only exception to this rule is Batman.

“Dear Capcom, I don’t mind if you put the DLC on disc, and overcharge me for it, but please make a DC fighting game like the Marvel ones.

    Amen”
