DOOM 3 BFG Edition Coming to Consoles

By Brian P Rubin | 30 May 2012 | 18 Comments

Today, Bethesda announced DOOM 3: BFG Edition, a version of the game specifically remastered for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles. The new edition will be released on the aforementioned consoles as well as PC, and will include seven new levels called “The Lost Mission,” not to mention the “Resurrection of Evil” add-on.

What improvements have been made to the game for the BFG Edition? According to the press release, it’ll have Xbox Achievement and PlayStation Trophy support (natch), and “improved rendering and lighting, and a new check point save system allowing for smoother progression through the game.”

Said id Software’s creative guru, Technical Director John Carmack:

DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release. Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls.  New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”

The edition also includes the original versions of DOOM and DOOM 2, so if you missed out on those classics the first time around, now’s your chance to get in on the alien-demon-killing fun.

No hard release date yet, but it’s scheduled to be released this fall.

I think it’s just updating the game to work on current gen consoles with extra missions. Also re-releasing it on pc although the original still works on pc

Mmm… I wouldn’t mind this if it was re-released with a shiny new look over it, cause I did indeed have some fun with some Co-Op games with mates. Problem is, I can just chuck Doom 3 in for regular Xbox and play through Achievementless, which im fine with cause Achievements are pointless anyway.

Im for it, but maybe graphical update and not full priced… cause I like what’s said, but it’s rubbing me somewhere in a wrong way…

Hmmmm, I see what you mean however if you had a PS3 not a Xbox then they they couldnt play Doom 3. However I dont agree on it being lower then £40 since it does come with DOOM 1,2 and 3. I will personally be buying this just so I can say I own a Doom game on every generation of consoles :D And ive never completed Doom 1 on any console so I want to finish it now.
