On Friday, we got our first news bits about a new Zone of the Enders project from Konami. Over the weekend, Konami creative guru, Hideo Kojima, revealed that while he’ll be involved in the creation of the new game, he’ll be more of a supporting producer.

The news comes by way of Andriasang. According to a post on the Japan-centric news site, which cites Kojima’s Twitter account, he’ll be “serving only a support role, dealing with such areas as the game’s direction and beginning planning.” But the “game design, screenplay, direction, [and] level design” will be handled by Kojima Team staff. Apparently he can’t take on too much more on the new ZOE game because he’ll be too busy overseeing his “Ogre Project,” an open-world game that’s been in development for some time now.

Kojima also revealed some more details about the game’s planned visual style, apparently saying that it will go in two different directions: “Japanimation SF Robot” style, and something akin to “live action…like Batman and the X-Men, Spider-Man.”

Take a look at the models above and below that are being scanned for use in the game. Considering that the franchise hasn’t had too many installments overall, do you think Konami is wise to continue with Zone of the Enders? Or should the company try their hand at something new?

With only 2 main console games and 1 handheld game, I think it would be good for them to continue ZoE. I’ve played the first one and loved it. In fact, I plan on getting the HD Collection once that drops so then I can actually beat the first one and try the second. Also, according to all the ZoE fans on YouTube, they’re desperate for a new one so I think this will be good. From my understanding, it’s a popular franchise so maybe this will be another good thing for Konami, like MGS.

From a fans perspective I loved the first two games, ZoE and the Second Runner. Beautifully designed with both CG and animation in the second game. The real problem is that the first was word of mouth so many people didn’t hear about it at first. That ended up causing people to find it later on only to find used copies. The real problem with the second one is that is was never massed produced like the first one was. It was a very limited number of copies compared to what they normally make. So finding that one was ever worse for fans of the series of games. On every forum, website, youtube, and just generally talking to fans of the series people want another one. And going into a new look isn’t always bad. There have been man games that changed it look and came out ontop of the market for it. Being new in a generation of all being the same thing is a fresh and inviting to gamers. With that hurt it, maybe but no one is sure until it happens. That same could be said for the new DMC by Ninja theory coming out this year. But that is another game.
