Diablo III Patch Incoming, Addresses Ongoing Issues

By Landon Robinson | 25 May 2012 | 4 Comments

Blizzard made a brief post on their Diablo III forums yesterday, where they mentioned that the first patch for the game could be prepped for launch as early as next week. With online connection tweaks being the main focus, this patch will fix several server issues that have attributed to the noticeable bruise on the game’s launch.

Aside from general connectivity issues, the update also plans address the problems with earning achievements that some players have cited. Blizzard says that they’re still coming up with a solution.

For those of you looking forward to making bank on the real-money auction house, we’re not sure how much longer you’ll have to wait – it hasn’t been given a firm release date yet. It was slated to go online earlier this week, but has since been delayed indefinitely. Blizz says it’ll have “More information soon.”

As for the recent, apparent upturn in security claims (compromised accounts and so forth), Blizzard says they’re observing the situation closely. They’ve mentioned that there is no “server spoofing” occurring, and that official Blizzard servers haven’t been compromised.

They noted that using an authenticator is still the best way to secure your account, in addition to smart password management and performing desktop virus scans regularly.

Finally, no word has been given on the PvP update (which was pushed back from launch to get the game out sooner), and certainly none has been given on any additional post-launch content. If it wasn’t obvious in the words above, it’s pretty clear that Blizzard has their hands full  trying to make sure everyone can simply play their darn game.

I think Community Manager Nethaera sums up their intents well enough:

“In the end, we simply want all of our players to be able to fully enjoy Diablo III, and we’ve been working around the clock to address issues as quickly and efficiently as possible.

We appreciate your continued support and enthusiasm, and we hope you and your friends are having a blast slaying Sanctuary’s demons.”

Server issues aside, how are you guys taking to Diablo III? If you’re still on the fence about a purchase, go check out our review of the game. All in all, we find that it’s pretty schnazzy.

“They noted that using an authenticator is still the best way to secure your account, in addition to smart password management and performing desktop virus scans regularly.”

What they don’t tell you unless you dig is that there are three types of authenticators, Dial-in,smartphone and the one you have to buy for 7 bucks. The dial-in authenticator does not work for D3 and SC2 so it is useless to prevent hackings, however there are rumors around the internet that even B-net accounts with the smartphone and pay-for authenticators are not being protected from the hackings.
On that note blizzard’s login security is very weak, three things they could do to fix this are; institute uppercase/lowercase pass word protection, make passwords expire every 60 days, and have a log-in limit where if the account password is attempted unsuccessfully after 3 times the account is locked and the password must be reset, directly through the in-game links where the user provides key information that the user has for example: the cd-key, their security question and so on or via email where blizzard tells the user to make certain to go to the battle net website directly without sending any email links, since you know blizzard claims that their emails get spoofed all the time by really ingenious hackers..

Other than that,if you check my comments in the review thread you’ll see that this is a different game, and in not in a good way..just seems like a step backwards compared to the second game, I expected blizzard to build upon their innovations of the first and second games instead they took steps backwards and with all the bugs and balance issues this does not feel like a blizzard game in general.

    @soulprovider

Yeah, because game devs intend to release bugged games and undo what was already the perfect game…*turn off sarcasm*

Some people just love to complain for the sake of it.

My complaint about D3 is simple, it is 99% the exact same interface as WoW, with more limitations that forces the player to focus heavily on loot drops and not stat setups, and limits the players abillity to set up a proper build, its just very weak in comparison to the previous games and if this wasn’t a blizzard game it would be associated with every over MMO and action RPG out on the market, blizzard is better than that they’ve proven it time and again in the past so what happened?

not sure what’s wrong with everyone, I’ve been having a great experience so far, and so have all of my friends. None of us have even encountered any server issues.
