Hmmm, yes, the communications thing seems the most plausible.
Though Nolan North doesn’t look to bad and I think he would make quite a good actor/red shirt ^^

But if communications, he could be anything, he could even be a person from one of the lower decks. Someone who is calling for help from a colony that is under attack.

The colony under attack scenario seems quite plausible anyway ;)

I doubt he’ll make a physical appearance, but rather just a voice-over. I can’t see him being made a simple Red-Shirt.

Off the top of my head, maybe a computer voice, like Majel Barrett Roddenberry who was the voice of Starfleet vessels. However I would expect them to use as much of her voice as they can to stay true to Canon. Perhaps an Alien vessel’s computer? Or some other system.

Maybe he’ll just be a voice over Communications, who knows.
