Ubisoft, publisher of popular franchises like Assassin’s Creed and the hotly anticipated Far Cry 3, announced today the details for the Far Cry 3 Multiplayer Beta, which will remain ultimately closed through invitation only.

Running for two weeks this summer on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the beta will allow invited players to participate in 16-player supported multiplayer matches – with up to 6 playable classes and dozens of weapons and upgrades to choose from, not to mention several maps and modes, including what they’re calling Firestorm mode.

Zip-lining, combat sliding, psyche gas, barrel bombs, and teammate reviving will all be a part of the team-focused gameplay experience.

To gain access to this invitation only beta, players need only pre-order Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier from GameStop, or by entering the beta sweepstakes over on the publisher’s Facebook page.

For those who pre-order Future Soldier through GameStop, your invitation codes can be redeemed at the GameStop website, and can be validated starting on May 22 when the site goes live. You’ll be able to choose your console of choice to play on, which will be redeemable upon with your actual redemption code that’s emailed once the beta begins this summer.

Additionally, beta keys will be given out on social networks like Ubi.com, farcrygame.com, and other social networks. Best start following their twitterz and facebookz.

Far Cry 3 is slated for launch on September 4, 2012 in the good ol’ USA, but be sure to try your chances at the beta to score yourself an early look.

Nab some of those mushrooms for me.

Why the Beta is just on consoles? >:-O Far Cry is a series that started only on the PC this is unfair for people that have been fans since the first game.

You know betas are just used to find out any problems right? It’s not a demo. They might be releasing a beta only on the consoles because they need help finding bugs on the console version. PC programming is easy, so they might not need any help finding the problems on the pc version.

I got excited then I found out it was for console only! If their “beta” testing the multiplayer does that mean theres no need to test the multiplayer for pc? Does the pc multiplayer not matter? Looking like Ubisoft only cares for the console.

so what about us less fortunate people in the UK? do we get the beta by pre ordering ghost recon future soldier from a different outlet?

Making this beta console only makes sense.

    1) Fixing bugs on PC games is easy, just a quick patch or update, with console the updating process is much more tedious and difficult. It would be best to get the most obvious and serious bugs gone on console.

    2) You get this beta through GameStop. Gamestop will be wanting you to buy the console version over the PC version because GameStop is one of the best and only places you can get new console games, while most PC sales are on Steam.
