Wii U Luigi’s Mansion Sequel Listing Spotted on Play.com

For quite a while now, it’s been public knowledge that Nintendo was preparing a sequel to the GameCube launch title, Luigi’s Mansion, for the 3DS sometime this year. But a report on PlayerAttack seems to confirm that a Wii U version is in the cards as well.

The post links to a listing on Play.com for a Wii U version of Luigi’s Mansion 2…and that’s about it. To my knowledge, there haven’t been any public announcements about a Wii U version of the game, while the 3DS version was announced at Reggie Fils-Aime’s E3 presentation last year.

While the idea of two versions of a flagship character’s new game doesn’t seem crazy, Nintendo isn’t quite in the habit of releasing multiple versions of the same game at the same time (that’s not to say that they don’t release multiple versions of the same game at all, since that defines pretty much every single Zelda game). I can’t think of any examples, especially with a console launch, where a new game has come out for two systems simultaneously. There was even a few years between New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS and the Wii—two pretty different games with the exact same name.

In addition, there wasn’t any mention of a Luigi’s Mansion game on the list of supposedly leaked Wii U launch titles from last week. My guess? The Play.com listing is a mistake—it should probably read 3DS, but doesn’t, because they messed up. But then again, hey, what do I know? We’ll certainly hear one way or the other at E3 next month.

Probably an accidental listing for Wii U, no way Nintendo would have two Luigi’s Mansion sequels going at once. The 3DS platform is probably what it meant to list.
Pretty much what you said, but I’ve already commented…so yeah.
