Notch Rage Tweets About EA

According to Markus “Notch” Persson, the creator of Minecraft, Twitter quotes are NOT NEWS. You’re better than that, and you make me feel dirty.”

So, with that in mind, let’s go over some of the things Notch Tweeted today that we’re going to say is news.

In reaction to the recently announced EA Indie Bundle being sold on Steam through May 9 (I know, right?), Notch said earlier today, “EA releases an ‘indie bundle’? That’s not how that works, EA. Stop attempting to ruin everything, you bunch of cynical bastards.” He followed that one up with, “Indies are saving gaming. EA is methodically destroying it.”

Of course, those sentiments were picked up by the gaming media, leading to the first quote on this post. While Notch has tried to make light of the whole situation by saying “Twitter is ‘public statements’ now? I thought it was just random opinions and bad puns,” he gives voice to what a lot of gamers have been thinking (and saying, though with far less media attention).

What do you think? It’s pretty easy to beat up on EA, as they’re one of the biggest publishers around and they’re a pretty big target. At the same time, it does seem a little disingenuous for one of the biggest publishers around to say they publish “indie” games—and on a platform with which they’ve had some pretty public disputes.

And Notch—sorry, but anything you say on Twitter is fair game. The price of success, man. Alas!

I don’t know how I feel about making Notch,,,”feel dirty.” I’m gonna have to agree with you though Brian. Thanks to Notches current position after Minecrafts success, his twitter is now an unintentional soapbox. Even if his tweet is about this mornings breakfast HE WILL BE HEARD.
