The Fullbright Company: A New Studio from Three Former BioShock Vets
A post on Gamasutra yesterday reported that three former veterans of 2K Games’ BioShock franchise—designer Steve Gayner, programmer Johnnemann Nordhagen, and editor/researcher Karla Zimonja—have left their former employer to found The Fullbright Company in Portland, Oregon.
On the company’s new website, the trio explain that they’ve worked on BioShock 2, Minerva’s Den, XCOM, and BioShock Infinite, and that their “closest collaboration was on the small team responsible for the Minerva’s Den DLC for BioShock 2, of which Steve [Gaynor] was the writer and design lead.”
According t the Gamasutra post, the team’s first project is a “first-person game with atmospheric elements and a heavy emphasis on exploration, similar to the BioShock titles. Unlike that series, though, this will be a ‘nonviolent game in an unfantastical locale’ for PC.”
So here we are: another new, independent studio. Seems as though a lot of companies are kind of fracturing these days, spawning new, leaner, meaner studios that look to break away from the blockbusters the big companies are pushing out. We’ll see…
