God of War: Ascension Unveiled by Sony

By Brian P Rubin | 19 April 2012 | 3 Comments

This morning, online retailer Amazon posted a listing for God of War: Ascension, the new installment in the series that was teased on Sony’s Facebook page last week. Shortly following that listing going live, Sony made good on its 4.19.12 promise in the teaser, and updated the official PlayStation Blog with information about the game, along with the title’s very first trailer.

The PS3 exclusive is being directed by Todd Papy, and is being developed by Sony Santa Monica Studios. The PlayStation blog post also notes that fans can check out the God of War: Ascension page on Facebook on Monday, April 30, at 8 a.m. Pacific for “a live streaming event that will give you a glimpse of what’s in store for God of War: Ascension.” Papy, who wrote the post, also says that he’ll answer fan questions about the game that are Tweeted to @PlayStation with the #godofwarascension hash-tag.

The trailer is pretty, you know, trailery. It’s got ominous old lady narration, animated torture (natch), and an angry pre-god Kratos chained up and feeling lousy. Sounds like Ascension will be something of a prequel in the series—considering that when a mortal is elevated to godhood, that would be called “ascension,” and because there’s no number in the title. It’s not God of War IV…which tells me that it doesn’t so much as continue to the story as much as it will explain how Kratos got to where he is. That’s my deductive skills at work, yo.

As of this writing, we’ll have the trailer posted above in about 20 minutes. If you haven’t yet, check out the trailer above! Blam!
