Laugh At These Terrible 80s Boxarts

NeoGAF is good for a few things — realizing that some people still like Japanese games, and collecting horrendous (or horrendously awesome) 80s box art scans. Started by NeoGAF user Criminal Upper, this thread not only showcases all the most gnarly and radical box art from the 8bit era, but also shows the same boxarts from different regions. I don’t know why but that shit is always fascinating to me.

For instance, here’s the European version of Ninja Gaiden –

    They changed it because of the same reason they changed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Hero Turtles, they actually understood what the word ninja meant. Ninja are assassins and spies, or in other terms: murderers and traitors. It’s not something Europe felt comfortable with letting the children take part of, you know? The whole murdering and stealing secrets thing.

    We really should be glad that the guy on the box art is asian, at least.
