If Spanish newspaper El Mundo is to be believed, Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo apparently said to the magazine that Nintendo will be showing off a new Mario game for the WiiU at E3 this June.

He went on to say that the game would combine the use of the tablet controller and television, as is the new system’s trademark attribute.

While no other remarks regarding the supposed project were offered, he did mention that he was interested in moving forward with the Wii Music franchise.

“It is always sad that something is not sold as well as expected” Miyamoto said.

“I think these negative experiences on a project is a thorn that is stuck, so we usually try to work the best idea or at least take it up and concretize it from an angle different for use in another title.

“[But] yes, I want to do more with that idea.”

It’s a shame, as Wii Music was a collection of really great ideas, especially for a family title. It unfortunately fell flat in execution – resulting in a mediocre music-making title for the original Nintendo Wii.

Here’s to hoping Miyamoto spins some of his trademarked originality into this hopeful new project.

The WiiU is set to release sometime this holiday season in all major regions, and has a rumored release date of November 18.
