Miyamoto Discusses Link to the Past Re-imagining, F-Zero on Wii U
Miyamoto can’t open his mouth without causing 80s kids to resonate palpable waves of nostalgia. Speaking with Edge Online, Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development Branch Manager Shigeru Miyamoto clarified some earlier remarks he made regarding a new Zelda recreation on the 3DS.
Rather than opt for the obvious choice of Majora’s Mask, Miyamoto wants to revisit A Link to the Past. It wouldn’t be a typical revisit though.
“…I’d be even more interested in creating something new maybe based on, or starting from, A Link To The Past. I think it’s important to bring some really new software,” Miyamoto said.
Edge also asks the obvious – now that we have a 3D gaming device, where the hell is F-Zero? Miyamoto attribute’s the game’s success to the “shock” created by the game’s effects, and that merely going back to that well wouldn’t work.
“But maybe with future hardware, with Wii U coming up, maybe we could create something that does make sense, either as a smaller game, or a fully fledged title,” Miyamoto said.
For more details, make sure to check out Edge’s article. I could hear that man talk all day, but Nintendo doesn’t let him out to play very often, so get it while you can.

Um, if we get another Zelda remake, I’d rather have Majora’s Mask, since they have the assets for it available in Ocarina of Time 3D. I’d rather see the kind of resources it would take to remake A Link to the Past be channeled into an entirely new game instead of a game I’ve played a million times.
