Mass Effect 3: Resurgence Pack Free DLC Announced

By Brian P Rubin | 06 April 2012 | 16 Comments

Today BioWare announced details for some brand-new, free DLC for Mass Effect 3—and it’s not even related to the game’s ending!

Called The Mass Effect 3: Resurgence Pack, the new downloadable content will be released on EA’s Origin, XBLA, and the North American PSN on April 10 in North America, and will be available on Europe’s PSN the next day.

The content is focused on the game’s multiplayer campaign, and will include two new maps, six new unlockable characters, three new weapons, and four new consumables.

Here are the details from the press release:

  • Two New Action-Packed Maps – Take the battle to Firebase Condor, a warzone outpost located on one of Palaven’s moons and Firebase Hydra, an old abandoned quarian colony which has since been converted into a critical power facility. Each map represents a crucial asset in the overall fight against the Reapers.
  •  Six Powerful New Unlockable Characters – Assume the role of new characters for each class, including the Asari Justicar Adept, Krogan Battlemaster Vanguard and characters from new playable races with the Batarian Soldier, Batarian Sentinel, Geth Engineer and Geth Infiltrator.
  •  Lethal New Weapons – Obliterate wave after wave of enemies by unlocking the Striker Assault Rifle, Kishock Harpoon Gun and Geth Plasma SMG.
  • New Consumables – Cash in your credits to purchase reinforcement packs that could include the following new consumables:
    • Strength Enhancer – Applies a melee damage boost for one mission
    • Targeting VI – Applies a headshot damage bonus for one mission
    • Stabilization Module – Stabilizes weapons while firing and moving for one mission
    • Shield Power Cells – Shortens the length of time shields take to begin recharging for one mission

Well? That’s pretty damn good, right? Free DLC! Let’s hear it for EA. *Slow claps.*

It is really free? Do you mean free like I don’t need to pay for it?
Maybe EA is not the worst company in America after all.

No, no, no. What they mean is that you get the DLC for free and let them skull-f*** your wallet while you’re distracted…. It said that right in the article. Learn to read.

Ever since I saw this, ( http://www.insidegamingdaily.com/2012/03/13/leaked-image-suggests-multiplayer-dlc-for-mass-effect-3/ ) I was hoping, deep down, that this was true. And now we find that it is.

I’m actually pretty happy with this because not only do you finally get to play as the Geth, the boogeymen of the Mass Effect universe, you get to play as everyone’s favorite minority-of-space, the Vorch– I mean, Batarians!

And a harpoon launcher? That takes me back to Crackdown DLC days. :)

I’m so happy its free! I guess EA has learned from bf3 that free dlc is the best kind of dlc, and people wont try and start online movements to try and get that changed.. And as far as the Krogan Vangaurd goes… i cant wait to see a walrus fly past me and never die cause they have so much health. :P (can’t wait for this dlc!!!)

The best thing is that it won’t be available only on PC! Every platform exept for PC will get it! (DAMN YOU YOU SHALL GET SQUASHED BY A REAPER EA!)

    @Qror

What do you mean every platform but PC? The article pretty clearly says Origin, Xbox Live, and PSN, so that means all platforms, PC included.

Also… krogan battlemaster and Geth Infiltrator. The two characters I were the most disappointed did not exist. YES!!!

    Geth do not Infiltrate.

Justicar though, I like the sound of that…

Makes me wonder how much they were willing to charge for this ‘update’ before all the controversy. ;)

In my opinion i hope you have to actually unlock the characters that way not everyone has all these stupendous characters

Hmm anyone else notice that the trailers characters have armor the color of red, green, blue and they match to ending meanings that bioware artistic integrity demands be kept even tho it destroys the franchise.

Hmm me thinks bioware be trolling.

Methinks you’re reading into things. And saying it “destroyed the franchise” is a subjective statement if I ever heard one.
