Rumor: WiiU to Launch on November 18
According to a report from Wii U Daily, the Nintendo Wii U console will be available at retailers this holiday season – November 18 to be exact.
Wii U Daily credits this information from an internal email that’s being passed around the staffers of Japanese retailer Media Land. Rumor has it that the email contains news that the Wii U will see a North American release on Sunday, November 18 – just one day shy of the original Wii’s 6th birthday (November 19, 2006, also a Sunday).
The system will also reportedly be available in Japan the following week.
Though Nintendo confirmed in January that their new tablet-focused console would be releasing this holiday season for North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia, it has yet to comment on any release rumors thus far – as is standard for giant companies like The Big N.
Whether or not the exact day is accurate, I’m willing to put my money on a November release date for the Wii U. Considering the fact that the Wii and Wii U are purposely being kept in the same family of products (not just Nintendo, but the Wii brand specifically), it’s not too far outside the realm of possibility that these products have similar release windows.
I could be entirely wrong, and the Wii U could release on December 23. But that’s part of the fun – speculation and rumor.
What’s your opinion?
