The only way they have a point would be if they point out that it only promotes violent behavior in those already predisposed to violent and aggressive behavior. There was a study done on it. Heres a url in fact:

I think its more with the generations your saying parents are being stupid for buying there kids M rated games probably because you’ve seen an 8 year old play CoD but is you think about it the probably parents haven’t. I’m 13 an have been playing many different kinds of games since I was like 8 and I’ve played online and seen what happens with small kids when they play CoD its horrible what I’m trying to say is that the parents don’t play the games they buy for their kids so they don’t see what happens in the future when I’m possibly a parent I know what games are appropriate for an 8 year old to play because I used to play a lot of games at that age. This my be a bit confusing but do you get it parents now don’t know whats going on in the games their kids are playing because gaming wasn’t as big as it when they were that age but future parents will.

For god’s sake, there is NO PROOF whatsoever that violence in media is what causes real-life violence. A kid that went on a high school massacre with explosives and a shotgun earlier was known to play Doom, but it was proved that this had no relation to what he did. Two kids kidnapped and tortured to death a toddler a while back, and although they had recently secretly watched a copy of Child’s Play 3, it was proved that this was unrelated.

Plus, who’s going to play video games if it says THAT on the package…

Why not put a label oin everything that could potentially cause harm? How about on every football you put a label saying “WARNING: playing with this could result in head trauma and death.” Honestly, there is far more evidence for the harmful effects of many other things than there are for video games. Even this bill needs a label, “WARNING: could potentially result in a severe paper-cut… and eventually death if you bleed out.”

It’s worth noting that ESRB ratings are -entirely- optional. However, it’s to the point where certain retailers will refuse to stock your game unless it’s rated (ie. Walmart). The only true restriction for game sales is whether it contains adult content (sex), in which case it cannot lawfully be sold to children under 18.

The USA should implement the PEGI system for 2 reasons:
1. It isn’t a big warning like on cigarette packets, but small icons beside the recommended age representing what it contains (eg, Nudity, Violence, Discrimination, Gambling, etc).
2. Only seldomly are words attached to the symbols meaning it’s an it’s perfect for somewhere with many nationalities such as America.
