So, it’s no secret that Minecraft is a popular game, a fact due in large part to the people behind the game, the developer Mojang. Well, the Minecraft mastermind, Markus “Notch” Persson, announced yesterday that the dividends from the company for the year 2011 was roughly $3 million.

And that he would be distributing that money among the rest of the company. Needless to say, the other employees were pretty happy to hear it.

A post on Joystiq rounded up a number of choice reactions from Mojang personnel about their new windfall. Lydia Winters Tweeted: “Best day. Incredibly stunned still. I can’t even believe it. @notch is amazing. So happy for everyone @ Mojang!”

Daniel Kaplan concurred: “ok i will go to sleep now. Im already crying…tears in shock and happiness.”

And Carl Manneh, the company’s CEO, had this to say: “@notch gave away all his dividends to the Mojang employees. Thanks to him, this is the best company in the world.”

Yeah, at this point it’s kind of hard to poke a hole in that argument. I mean, Machinima’s pretty great too—I get to write about and play video games for a living, and pants are optional. But no one’s offered me a piece of a cool $3 million yet…

Congratulations to everyone at Mojang! And let this be a lesson, kids: pay attention in math class. You might wind up at an awesome game developer and get lots of money from friendly Swedes.
