I understand the layoffs but 600!? I mean come on, what's the need to fire that many people unless someone's telling me that half a grand of people weren't doing proper jobs properly. I mean, it doesn't make any sense, it's just.......why 600 people, why?

Yes, the evil company rhetoric. They get bonuses because they cut costs regardless of the means they did it and that equals more profit. If you're ever in the position to run a company of their scale you may understand that tough decisions are necessary to keep profits rolling.

Easy. They were sucking money from the company and likely served very little purpose. Companies will be nice but their business is to make money not give people free charity. Yes it sucks, but that's how it goes. Same reasons factories get rid of people because machines are reducing the need for labor. In this industry, similarly, one person can probably do a lot more than they could 10 years ago because of computer advances. They used to have to run render farms just to render short videos, no computers can do it much much faster and still do other tasks. So it is understandable, I am sure Blizzard gave them nice severance packages as well - I would hope any how.
