BioWare’s Lead Writer Leaves Company

drew departure

It seems as though the main mastermind behind the stories of BioWare—the makers of Mass Effect, The Old Republic, and Dragon Age, among others—is leaving the company that he’s called his home away from home for the past 12 years.

According to a post on his website, Drew Karpyshyn is leaving BioWare in a “completely amicable” and “100% my decision” split. The reason he’s retiring from the company—and video games in general, he wrote on Twitter—is to focus more on his novels:

“I’m leaving to focus more time and energy on my novels and other non-video game related projects. But even though I’ll no longer be working on games for BioWare, I’m not going to be severing all ties with them. Many of my closest friends still work at the company, and I’m also in the process of writing the next Star Wars: The Old Republic novel, though I can’t say too much about it yet.”

So, of course, if you BioWare fans are unhappy about this, there’s only one logical course of action.

Burn him alive in a garbage can

I was really hoping it was Hamburger Helper that retired.

I’d say this is a good move for all, most of BioWare’s games seem to have been following one formula with a few variations.

    All the best for him.
