Could EA Be Considering COD Elite-like Subscription Service?

Last week, we brought you a report about EA’s earnings for 2011, but a post on IndustryGamers picked up on a little detail that many missed when the call’s contents were first reported. It seems as though EA’s CEO John Riccitello, who’s often had harsh words for his competitors in the past, praised Activision for their Call of Duty Elite service.

“Frankly, I give a compliment to one of our competitors, who’s got a subscription on the back end of an FPS title. I think that’s a best-in-class performance,” said Riccitello, almost certainly referring to the Elite service.

Simply put, if there’s a way to generate more revenue that has a proven formula, EA would be foolish not to try and emulate. Given the fact that CODE offers bonus content for subscribers—while multiplayer is still available for non-subscribers—it’d seem like a win-win for EA to follow this model for their next FPS game.

What do you think—would you pay a monthly premium for more, better (and maybe even early/exclusive) content for Battlefield 4? Or are you feeling subscription fatigue already? Any CODE subscribers out there want to chime in?

I don’t pay for CoD Elite… If they bring out a BF Elite.. Well no thanks. For me i honestly don’t think a 6 hour long single player campaign is worth $60 of my money, The online makes it worth it.. So if i have to pay another $60 to play the game online… Yeah no thanks lol.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Battlelog enough like Elite to justify not spending money and resources on such a service? I feel like my stat tracking on Battlelog is pretty tight.

You don’t pay for that sort of thing with Elite. Basically Battlelog and Elite are identical, just with Elite you can choose to also pay and get a bunch of DLC and video uploading options for a year. I’m assuming all this would do is add the same option to Battlelog. A season pass type deal with a couple extra bonuses, in essence.

I think it’s a bad idea. A ton of people have distaste for the Elite service as it is, so for Battlefield to specifically try and emulate something people criticize for the sake of money, it just makes EA look bad.

I thought thats what the Gun Club and Battleog was all for? Sounds bad I don’t use COD ELite and won’t pay for it.

I could love a game, but that does not mean i will buy every dlc, If i have the money, i will. If i do not, i will not.

With that in mind, You must give me more than free dlc and stats to make me join.
