Rumor: Laptops with built-in Kinects Coming Soon
According to a post on The Daily, computer manufacturer Asus is reportedly working with Microsoft to create a new laptop with a built-in Kinect sensor.
The Daily claims to have seen prototype machines of Asus netbooks running Windows 8 software. When and where is shrouded in mystery. They indicate though, that those laptops had small sensors lined up above the screen bezel, supporting the theory of a built-in Kinect.
Interestingly enough, their source at Microsoft allegedly confirmed the existence of such a machine with Kinect functionality. While it isn’t likely that Microsoft will produce the machines themselves, it would make sense for them to outsource the concept to third parties, Asus being the example in this case.
While these rumors have yet to be publicly confirmed, the big M did confirm at CES that the PC Kinect for Windows unit will be launching on February 1st in the US with a price tag of $249.
