ME3 Special Forces Trailer Looks Slick as Hell

By Brian P Rubin | 27 January 2012 | News | , , , | 11 Comments

This new trailer for BioWare’s Mass Effect 3 shows off some of the baddassery you’ll be able to enjoy when the third installment in the franchise comes out on March 9. The video above gives a cinematic view of multiplayer craziness.

And, you know, there’s tons of aliens shooting the shit out of each other.

Here’s my dilemma. That game looks totally awesome. But when I got the first Mass Effect last year, to try and prepare for ME2, I was totally turned off by how difficult the combat was, so I decided not to pursue. But now that I’m seeing this trailer (and all the other goodness), and the promise of online co-op play, which is pretty much one of my favorite things ever…well, you see where I’m going with this.

What say you, readers? Would it be okay for me to jump into Mass Effect 3 as a total n00b? Does it matter that I haven’t played much of the first one, and none at all of the second one? I hate jumping in to things like this…but this time it may be warranted. TELL ME WHAT TO DO.

Personally, I went to a pawn shop and bought ME1 again so that I could get all meh choices. But hopefully they’ll be doing that thing again where people can just jump in to the game without too much of a learning curve.

Unlike ME, however, Witcher 2 is an entirely different story… I would never have survived the second game had I not played the first game…

Mass effect 1 was an ok game its combat was a little messy, Mass effect 2 fixed all those problems and is a 100 times better than the first, combat is easy and fun and with the genisis add on you can make all the choices of Mass Effect 1 in 2. To summerise Play mass effect 2 its well worth the time.

The only thing Mass Effect 2 had over Mass Effect 1 was the combat and inventory management system. Other than that, it was worse in every way.

    DO WANT.

Now if only this (AND THE DLC) would go into Steam.

I think it’s only going to be on origin. It’s an EA game after all.

        Hence, “now if only…”

Maybe sometime in the late future. When Origin dies out. Hopefully.

ME1 was really great. The combat was clunky but there are very few RPGs with as good a story as Mass Effect with better combat. Mass Effect 2 fixed the combat so that it was really fluid and action-y, but the story was a lot worse, not to mention some of the really bad plot points that made absolutely no sense. From what I see of Mass Effect 3, it’s going to be even worse story-wise and even better combat wise. Basically, Mass Effect is being turned into more of a Third Person Shooter with some RPG elements than an actual RPG.

And I think it’s better off like that. Mass Effect 1 was was a good game, but it was a little too slow paced, combat fuckin sucked, but the story was its saving grace. I don’t think mass effect is a series that needs heavy RPG to be great.

To be honest, I don’t get how ME1′s story is it’s saving grace. It was so-so IMHO, I actually preferred ME2′s story.

Then again, I started with ME2, so I guess the story didn’t impact me as much as it would’ve for people who started with ME1.

And yeah, I’m worried about how ME3′s story will be like. The very concept of going around the galaxy and dealing with reapers while recruiting other races sounds very DA:O.

        Too much like DA:O.
