The Force is Strong with This One: Origin Secures New Publishers

origin adds publishers

Like it or lump it (some of you definitely lump it), EA’s Origin service just got a bit more legit, having secured new publisher partners. According to a post on Eurogamer, Origin’s store will be offering games from the following new game publishers:

  • CD Projekt Red
  • Trion Worlds
  • Freebird Games
  • Recoil Games
  • Autumn Games
  • 1C Company
  • inXile Entertainment
  • Paradox Interactive
  • Core Learning Ltd.
  • N3V Games

Did you count the number of publishers? I counted 10. Gaming websites are reporting that 11 have been added to the service, but only 10 have been confirmed to my eyes. If any eagle-eyed readers out there figure out number 11, let us know.

Anyway, Trion’s MMO Rift is now available through Origin, so if you’ve been waiting to pick that’un up, now’s your chance. Bam.

Since there was no other option but to install it if I wanted to play BF3, I had to get used to it .. they should focus on developing the platform, the app is sloppy, has few payment methods, etc. And they need to raise security, I got Burnout Paradise for free from Origin (tehee)

I understand that publishers want to have their products in as many markets as possible, but why would people buy from origin unless they were forced to?

I hope they keep on Steam. EA will probably ban them from using Steam as soon as they sign a contract.

If they were to be banned, I’m almost sure none of them would sign a contract with EA. They should know as good as anyone else that the majority of sales will be on Steam. But if it turns out to be a not so good game, it miiight get more sales on Origin since it’ll probably be more visible amongst the inferior amount of games

Didn’t they say they were tossing Mass Effect 3 on Origin because of Steam issues? Why isn’t Bioware up there? If they aren’t now, they will be soon enough.

Mugenite They already own Bioware to begin with why should they be on that list

I can’t see EA handling Origin as well as Valve has Steam, especially looking at EA’s track record for being good to its customers vs. valve’s. For instance, almost all PC DLC for Valve games are free, EA created project ten dollar to make those who can’t buy new pay for on disc content.

Shizno, Valve is a developer, EA is a publisher. Not to mention EA publishes some Valve titles. There’s really no comparing them, unless you compare their PC distribution platforms, and it’s obvious which is better.
