As you already know by now, the demo for Mass Effect 3 from BioWare and EA is getting shot through your loving hearts on February 14—so very soon! But if you’re a PC gamer (and we know there’s a lot of you), you’re going to want to know what you’re going to need to be packing in terms of horsepower to run this mamma-jamma.

Yeah, I said it. Mamma-jamma.

Here, then, are the recently revealed hardware specs, minimum and required, to run the third installment in the Mass Effect series, revealed by BioWare’s Chris Priestly on the company’s forums:

Minimum Spec:

  • OS – Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1, Win 7
  • *Supported chipsets: NVIDIA 7900 or better; ATI X1800 or better.  Please note that NVIDIA GeForce 9300, 8500, 8400, and 8300 are below minimum system requirements, as are AMD/ATI Radeon HD3200, HD3300, and HD4350.   Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required.
  • CPU – 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (equivalent AMD CPU)
  • RAM – 1GB for XP / 2GB RAM for Vista/Win 7
  • Disc Drive – 1x speed
  • Hard Drive – 2.5 GB of free space
  • Video – 256 MB* (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support)
  • Sound – DirectX 9.0c compatible
  • DirectX – DirectX 9.0c August 2009 (included)

Recommended Spec:

  • OS – Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1, Win 7
  • CPU – 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (equivalent AMD CPU)
  • RAM – 2GB for XP / 4GB RAM for Vista/Win 7
  • Disc Drive – 1x speed
  • Hard Drive – 2.5 GB of free space
  • Video – AMD/ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB or greater, NVidia GeForce 9800 GT 512 MB or greater
  • Sound – DirectX 9.0c compatible

Now, I should also point out here that the forum post from Priestly says that these are only the specs for the demo—so when the full game drops on March 6, hard drive space is likely to be the only specification that will change.

It’s because the game is optimized for the XBOX360. Remember how in ME2 you had two sections of the game? You can’t really notice it on the PC, but it’s split into two parts because the XBOX360 version had two discs. Also, the textures were in way lower quality than what a PC can handle.

Hmm, weak as usual, but for a game optimized for consoles, I guess I shouldn’t expect much.

It still supports XP when mainstream support for it ended back in ’10. xD

I still want to know how its going to affect steam users since its now being hosted on origin for PC. I’m pretty sure people would be pissed if your previous saves don’t carry over.
