XCOM: Enemy Unknown Announced, Made by Firaxis
Revealed recently via an article from Game Informer was that XCOM: Enemy Unknown is in the works, and it’s being made by Firaxis Games, the team behind Sid Meier’s Civilization V.
While the previous announcement of 2K Marin’s XCOM shooter left many long-time fans disgruntled, the fact that Enemy Unknown is a full on strategy title should help in quelling some of those frustrations.
Enemy Unknown is focused on placing you in command of a global anti-alien defense force, giving you worldwide perspective on planetary events, and allowing you to use tactical thought through turn based control.
Steve Martin, president of Firaxis Games, shared his excitement in bringing XCOM to a new generation:
“It’s been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We’re huge fans of the original game and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as X-COM,”
“We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise.”
If you’re new to XCOM or would merely like to educate yourself on the franchise, Game Informer has a fantastic article that shares insight from series creator Julian Gollop.
All this information and more can be read in the upcoming February issue of Game Informer, of which the game’s coverage is exclusive.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this fall.
