According to a post on PC Gamer, the sequel to the original Lego Batman has been announced, aptly titled, Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.

In addition to the simple announcement that the game exists, the game will contain an “expansive Gotham City environment”, leading us to believe that the playspace within the game will be larger, hopefully denser. Based on the title, I’d expect a deeper look into the DC Multi-Universe.

Additionally, more characters will be fighting alongside Batman and Robin, including Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern – with Lex Luthor and the Joker as the two main villains.

Vehicles will be in the game as well, such as the Batmobile and the Batwing.

Gadgets will make a return in the sequel, with a few new toys like Batman’s Power Suit and Robin’s Hazard Cannon. You can also expect flight, super-breath and heat vision.

Also mentioned in the post was the statistic that the original Lego Batman sold over 11-million units worldwide. With sales like that, it’s no wonder they’re producing a sequel, and a good one at that, it seems.

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes will be available this summer, and likely (but not confirmed) on all the platforms it was made available on in the last game: Nintendo Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Mac, PSP, and DS.

Finally, a dark and gritty revision of a Batman game. I can’t think of any previous game that has gone in this brave new direction…none at all.
