Three Devs Leave DICE for Mobile Developer
Despite the fact that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was clearly the winner of all video game sales contests this year, EA’s Battlefield 3 still enjoyed a pretty healthy bit of success from a critical and financial standpoint. But that doesn’t mean that those who worked on the game wouldn’t be happier elsewhere.
As such, according to a post on Develop today, Willie Wintertidh, Malte Hildingsson, and Torbjorn Lædre (the latter of two having worked on Battlefield 3) have left EA’s Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment, or DICE, for Ngmoco Sweden, a publisher of mobile and social video games. The trio’s hiring was announced by Ngmoco manager Ben Cousins, who himself left EA in 2010 after four years with the company.
Personally, I find it interesting that developers for big-budget console games would be into scaling things down for the mobile and social market—I’d imagine that would be a pretty drastic shift in the way you work from day to day. But, of course, I don’t know anything about what it really takes to develop video games, so hey, maybe this will be like a party-time vacation every day.

Interesting. This is the same mobile company that the Crytek developers went to. Wonder where this is leading..
I assume they are all game designers; wanting to move into the social gaming space because they have lots of ideas for it.
I would doubt many programmers would want to go from working on what is probably one of the most advanced game engines out there to programming some 2D social games. I have nothing against Flash games or fully 2D-rendered titles such as Terraria, I might add.
Something must be going on with EA’s management. I don’t think that three lead developers at DICE would leave coincidently like that. Maybe EA wants Battlefield to turn more like Call of Duty and make more money. Why would DICE create a Battlefield: Call of Duty? That sounds ridiculous.
I don’t know, just a thought.
Or maybe a whole new amazing game is being developed. Can’t wait!
