Rumor: WiiU to have an e-reader book service
As if there weren’t enough devices in the world that you can read books on, it seems that Nintendo is also interested in dipping their toes into the world of e-readers with the upcoming WiiU.
This rumor comes courtesy of website Forget The Box, in which they detail a discussion the author had with a software developer who was approached by Nintendo to port iOS software to the system.
Even more so, Nintendo is looking into providing a book, magazine, and comic service for their new WiiU console. The rumor also indicates that support for instructions manuals, strategy guides, and every issue of Nintendo Power will be made available, for free, to the consumer.
Nintendo is actively seeking publishers to help flesh out its online library, with publications relating to sports, cooking, music, fashion and more.
Additionally, the rumor claims that the 3DS will share in the e-reader functionality, given that a WiiU is connected to it:
“My source also told me that people with a 3DS will share the Wii U’s e-reader service, and it will be able to download books, magazines, newspapers, and comic books too.
You can zoom in and out of text and graphics. Nintendo wants Wii U and 3DS to share certain services the same way iPhone/iPad share services.”
So, dearest readers, what do you think? Do you maintain the slightest interest in this, as they say, book reading?
I personally have no interest in this “literature” mumbo jumbo.

well, i do have real books at home, so, dont need it
Every issue of Nintendo Power and game strategy guides? Now that’s an E-book reader I want!
As long as it’s just Nintendo and game material, then that is okay. Trying to competing with iTunes/iBooks/iPad or Amazon’s Kindle is a bad idea.
Nintendo is really cranking on this WiiU. I was P.O’ed in the beginning cause it just seemed like an extension to the Wii, but now there is a separate app market place (like iphone) and an e-reader. This is going to change consoles forever, like the n-64 and the wii. You make me proud Nintendo :)
