New Tony Hawk to be Announced Saturday

In what’s probably a clumsy dance around NDA restrictions, professional skater Tony Hawk tweeted the following yesterday:

“I’ll be announcing the upcoming release of something new on Sat; the same day as the Spike Video Game Awards. Coincidence? I think not.”

If you have the intellectual capacity to tie your own shoes, you can put together than a new Tony Hawk game will be announced at the Spike VGAs this Saturday.

Previously, the Tony Hawk franchise was filed with the Guitar Hero franchise under “We Ran This Shit Into the Ground,” and thus due for a cooling-off period. The last game to come out in that franchise was Tony Hawk: Shred, which released in late 2010 for the skateboard motion peripheral that was as well-received as a Christmas ham at a bar mitzvah. Following plummeting sales, Activision declared that the franchise would take a break.

That break is apparently over, and I’d put money on the next game being a Kinect exclusive, possibly XBLA exclusive. I’d also put money on it not being so great, but I’ve been wrong before. Occasionally.

Tony Hawk announces Half Life 3, revealing he actually bought the rights from Valve, hence why it’s taken so long to develop.

The box art will be Gordon Freeman riding a skateboard out of an explosion.

Didn’t his last game sell like 3000 copies? God.

If it is (at least) as good as american wasteland / underground 2 then I fully support this

No board peripheral please. I’ve been a fan of the series since I was younger and I hate that it was ran into the ground. XBLA I hope :D

Shibbs had a good thought…what if the announcement is an HD remake of the first few Tony Hawk games?

    If so, I’ll be ecstatic.

I love how Activision says the franchise is dead…

    Then brings it back.

I don’t recall Activision saying it was dead. They said they were taking a break from developing it because sales weren’t so good. They took a break, and now they’re trying it again.

I think them releasing a game again might be due to the fact EA arent continuing the skate franchise which completely destroyed them.
