Weeks ago, we reported that Fumito Ueda, creator of The Last Guardian, had quietly left Sony. Now, we have reports that Executive Producer on the same project, Yoshifusa Hayama, has officially left the company as well, and will be joining UK social game developer Bossa Studios as creative director.

Hayama has been with Sony since 2007, where he’s worked on titles like LocoRoco 2 and The Eye of Judgment. Prior, he worked at other UK based video game companies like Sega’s AM2 division and Square Enix, which might explain his transition back to another UK based company.

In a public announcement made after his appointment, he made clear his vision of a future focused on social and online gaming:

“The future of gaming is definitely online and thanks to recent developments with Flash 11, there is no reason why a social game can no longer be as visually stunning and as compelling as the big console titles.

Together at Bossa we have plans to bring a plethora of games to Facebook and eventually other appropriate social media channels, which include 3D elements and can be enjoyed by all age and interest groups.”

While I offer him nothing but best wishes in his transition to Bossa Studios, this odd turn of recent events does leave me rather concerned for development regarding The Last Guardian.

With both the creator and executive producer walking away from the project after several years of development to pursue other paths, what does this mean for the game?
