According to a post on Eurogamer today, a new game called Code of Princess is being developed for the 3DS in Japan. Creating the game is Tetsuhiko Kikuchi, the brains behind cult Treasure games Guardian Heroes and Sin & Punishment, who was hired by studio Agatsuma Games. The post says that the game is scheduled for release in Japan in early 2012, but it speculates that Agatsuma is looking for a publisher to release the game outside of Japan.

The post notes that the game is going to be an action RPG, and will feature real-time combat and cooperative play—and that’s it.

Also…codes. And princesses.

Now, I could easily make a joke here about what I think the code is (Unicorn Unicorn Alpha Tango Pink Tiara), but I’m not going to. It’s too cheap and easy (plus I already did it).

Instead, I’m going to point out the fact that this could very well be some kind of bad ass awesomesauce thing. I mean, after all, A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs is this really great novel about a dude who files up to Mars and kicks all kinds of ass on gigantic green aliens and white apes. And Disney’s making a film about it called John Carter—because they figured that no boy would go to a movie with the word “Princess” in the title. And that no girl would see it because it had “Mars” in the title. So they’re calling it John Carter.

True story.

Anyway, it’s a game, it’s got the word “Princess” in it, and it’s coming out next year in Japan. Blump.

Here’s some screenshots.
