Battlefield 3 ‘Back To Karkand’ Pack Gets A Release Date

By Landon Robinson | 01 December 2011 | 11 Comments

Battefield 3 - Back to Karkand - Strike at Karkand screens _3

While we knew that Battlefield 3′s Back To Karkand map pack would be hitting in December across all platforms, we now know the official release date: December 6th on PlayStation 3, and December 13th on PC and Xbox 360.

Users familiar with the release structure of Battlefield 3 DLC will recall that PlayStation 3 owners are lucky enough to get their hands on this content (and all future content) one week earlier than the rest.

In fact, this was put in place to counterbalance the retraction of their promises to include Battlefield 1943 with all PS3 copies of the game. But, EA handled that little mishap.

Regardless, the new pack drops one week later on PC and Xbox 360, and includes a handful of new vehicles and four new maps. The aforementioned maps are actually old, considering they’re remakes from past games in the Battlefield franchise, brought into the Frostbite 2.0 engine.

No one’s really complaining, as these maps are fondly remembered, and appear to play with just as much baddassery as they did before.

Back to Karkand will be free to all users who purchased the “Limited Edition” of the game at launch, but $15 for everyone else.

Oh, and apparently there’s MORE destruction abilities on these maps. That’s a Christmas present and a half right there.

It’s about time we got a release date. Been waiting for this since the game came out. Maybe it will be enough to drag me away from Skyrim…………..nah

Fifteen dollars? That’s pretty steep. I get that it comes with a lot of stuff, but it kind of defeats the edge they had over Call of Duty, DLC-wise, especially now that Call of Duty DLC is lowering in price and is raising in content delivery. Kind of a risky move on their part. I don’t really see why they need to charge so much for it anyways, they’ve probably already got boatloads of cash from the initial release anyways.

I’m not a big fan of the price tag, but I can actually see why they are charging fifteen dollars for it. Since everyone who pre ordered the game gets it for free, they probably want to squeeze just enough out of it.

Besides what JGByron said, it should also be noted that the maps are much larger then any of the ones from the Call of Duty series, and is adding more content then just the maps themselves, so it probably cost more to develop anyways. I got the limited edition version of the game though so I’m not complaining.

I’m not denying it took more time to develop than a map pack, but back in Bad Company 2 we got new shit for free, provided we bought the game new. New maps, new turrets, new vehicles, stuff like that. It just kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth since they used to tout how they had free DLC and now they’re charging fifteen bucks for it.

Meh, I downloaded it for 30 bucks during cyber monday, so this will only set me back to a 15 dollar profit for waiting. Maybe I should wait on the dlc too…hmmmmmmmmmmm
