Super Mario Bros. Opera Is Best Defense Against Congress’s Internet Anti-Piracy Bill

By Brian P Rubin | 30 November 2011 | 2 Comments

So, we’ve made some noise about the fact that there’s a pretty scary-seeming bill in the works in the United States Legislature in the last few weeks—legislation that could really punish websites that host content that can fit under the bill’s too-broad definitions of “copyrighted.”

If you’re still not convinced that the bill would be very damaging to the free and creative internet that we know and love, take a look at the above video for the Super Mario Bros. Opera. Under SOPA or PIPA, things like that wouldn’t be able to exist, which would just be a shame. Because it is awesome, and by using video footage from Super Mario Bros., it could be construed as to technically infringe on Nintendo’s copyright.

Man, I was singing this song all damn morning. Happy Wednesday, everybody.
